A Brief Debriefing

This morning we had our Vietnam Camp Debriefing at Dillon. I happened to look up the word debriefing to make sure I was spelling it correctly and the definition cracked me up:
"A semi-structured conversation with someone who has just experienced a stressful or traumatic event, the purpose is to allow them to talk about their experience."

SO HERE GOES OUR TALK!

What was liked:
Meeting other families/children
Outside and craft activities
Availability of toys
Talking with parents
Seeing kids from same orphanage
Dragon dancers
Radisson hotel

What to work on:
Crowded rooms
Quicker flow through events
Change the dinner/lunch times to eat sooner
Map of location needed in handout
No vegetarian options for Friday night (it was all veg on Sat! Tofu)
More time with parents and more workshops
Didn't like the 2 table set up
More volunteers
Q and A session/panel discussion
More selection for breakfast
Larger print for name tags

Other ideas for improvement:
Having a before and after picture board of kids pictures
Introductions from table for speed
Play Bingo questionnaire for icebreaker
Same orphanage for an activity
All Dillon staff working camp
Hand out and pick up evaluations during camp
Booking Vietnamese speakers/Culture 101
Use of walkie-talkies for staff/volunteers
More physical activities for kids
Possibly group children by age
Getting a complete email/blog list to families
More decorations in hallways
A display board with schedule/details of camp
Having a "class mom" for each activity room

AND THE BIG NEWS:
Dillon is going to try and fly THOMAS over for Vietnam camps!!!
AND
We will have non-Dillon activities for Thursday (zoo, playdate, dinner or something...)
We are trying to have camp cleared to become all day Friday-Saturday.
(To do this we must have 20 children over the age of four.)

SO EXCITING!
We will get to work making camp the best experience for your child and your family.

Camp Director Whitney did a great job! We have full confidence in her that everything we talked about will be addressed and that Vietnam camp will continue to be a great success!
Thank you.
